Hello all, thought I would share some of the repairs I have done on a Husky 61. Came in not running, found no spark even with the ground wire disconnected. Has a two piece ignition. Installed a new set, still no spark. I did some checking here, did all that others suggested from this forum. Still nothing. I tried to set the gap as close as it would go between the coil and the flywheel, still nothing but was quite a gap between the two. So I removed the left coil without the spark plug wire, filed the slotted hole a bit more so as to have more/closer of an adjustment to the flywheel, now I have spark. The saw started, now just need to adjust the idle and the low carb setting to run correctly. Also the saw came in with the muffler mounting bolts pulled out from the threads in the head, the guy ran it so long of a time with a loose muffler that the holes were to large to install helicoils into. So I cut the back of the hole out to accept nuts welded to the through bolts, then remounted the muffler. It worked, I did not have to buy a new head. It's not pretty but did work. Here's some photos. Still more work to do.image.jpegimage.jpeg image.jpeg

Presuming the coil/flywheel gap is being referred to, just set it using a paper business card.

DJC, nice job keeping another from the scrap yard.
Yes, coil/flywheel gap, I think it's even a little closer than a paper business card. I'll check this out and post what a feeler gauge tells me, thanks.
PS; I'm not sure if the flywheel magnets aren't loosing their magnetism, could be the reason I had to set it so close.

I am looking for the tool one uses to check crankcase pressure and vacuum, anyone know where I could find such a tool (share a link), that doesn't cost to much and includes fittings and such? I was thinking of building one. Thanks.

Hello guys, just want to let everyone know I found another site to glean information from to find updated part and crossover numbers on all kinds of chainsaws as well as other machines, it is parts tree.com. It's really awesome they also show pictorial parts brake downs, enjoy.

I restored both a husky 41 and a 61. The 61 had spark problems similar to yours. I ended up replacing both ignition modules. I also had to replace the chain brake. The 41 needed a complete carb tune up with the limiters removed. Otherwise it ran like a lazy snail. At the finish line, they both ran flawlessly. The 61 was a 300th anniversary edition saw.

Good project. The owner was happy to pay the restoration bill. I told him that I would buy them both back for that cost, but he said, "No entire way!"

Awesome, love to here of stories like this one. I'm having to change the chain brake on one of the 61,s I have, the other 61 originally did not come with a chain brake, it's old but recently been completely refurbished, it runs great, I found an updated chain brake kit for it so I'll be ordering it soon. The 51 will be the next to refurbish. Thanks for sharing.

Well still working with the Husky 51. Needed to replace the crank bearings and did not have a crankcase splitting tool, did not want to spend $80.00 on one, so I made one. Worked very well even though it's made from 1/8" plate steel and 1" square tubing. Here are photos.
