If I have a Tsumura Ultra Light 28" bar for my Husky....

It is listed as 3/8 Pitch, 0.050", 92 Drive Links.

A 28" bar for a Stihl is listed as 3/8 Pitch, 0.050", 91 Drive Links.

All of Stihl's 28" factory chains to fit a 28" bar are 91 Drive Links.

If I am planning on putting a Stihl chain on my Husky, do I need 91 or 92 DL? I have also seen people comment Stihl chains purchased are too long. It would seem Stihl does not make a 92DL chain. If that is what's needed it would have to be a custom made chain.

Do any of you that have already ventured in such endeavors have some good input?

Thanks.

You’ll need 92 drivers. Stihl’s 28 is more like a 27 inch bar, and it takes one fewer driver. Oregon has premade loops of 92 drivers.

It’s a PITA, especially if you like Stihl chain because it’s harder steel and doesn’t stretch as much. Husqvarna’s new C85 chain is intriguing as it supposedly has better qualities in terms of steel and stretch and it would come in 92 driver loops.

Thanks for the honest info. That's all I was looking for.

It looks like Husky Chain is offered in 93 DL loops.

What model is Oregon's equivalent to the RS Stihl chisel chain?

Just trying with what you got before ordering anything new. It just might surprise you.

I recently purchases a large quantity of stihl chains from a local dealer who made them up specifically for husky bars to sell to people who came in looking for them. You may be able to call around to local dealers and find one that will sell you one for the same price as a normal stihl with that many drivers. Either way youll definitely need a 92 driver chain. If your interested, I could make you some out of stihl chain fairly cheap depending if you need full skip or semi skip.

I got Stihl RS loops in 3/8" & .325" .058" pitch specifically spun to my saw and bar setup at my local Stihl dealer - it was simple.

Having Stihl chains at my disposal I still prefer Oregon LGX/EXL/Vanguard though.

Also, the bar being used determines the chains DL count required.
Same pitch chains are identical between manufacturers.

The specifications of a bar can be off, for example there are 18" bars in 3/8" pitch that take 64DL loops but also those that take 68DL.
The bars specifications including required chain DL count are often enough noted at the bars tail end.

You can go to the dealer and ask for the drive link count you need. The good dealers know what to do. Around here they don’t spin chain.
