Building a 61 to 272 and was wondering if should get the oem intake block or were the aftermarket ones from HL good quality

That’s good to know. I’ve read somewhere that the non oem gaskets some of the holes didn’t quite line up and I wasn’t sure if the intake blocks had the same problem

I haven't had an issue with non OEM gaskets on the 268/272, however they are also listed as fitting a 61, and unless later cylinders are different than the saws I have, they don't line up.

I saw that on a website for the intake block. It said genuine oem 272 intake block then below it said also fits 61, 66, 266 which didn’t make sense to me.

Hopefully you guys don't mind if I jump in with a similar question.

Which “consumable” rebuild parts do you use AM and which avoid? I'm rebuilding saws on same chassis and bought quality brgs at work, OEM husky seals and gaskets. I imagine AM gaskets would be OK but doubt crank seals. Could have saved a few $ with a Hyway gasket and seal kit.

Thanks

Just fyi, you can get $7 SKF 6202 C3 shielded bearings for those saws from ebay. I forked over $40 for two of those bearings at the husky shop and they showed up in the same little boxes as the $7 ebay ones. Just pop the shields out and you're good to go.

I always go OEM for fuel lines and usually for crank seals. I do have a few saws of my own and with a close friend running Hyway seals for testing, 2 years so far with no issues.
My dealer stocks the fuel lines and seals, so it's also a matter of convenience.

I second unsheilding the shielded bearings, bonus is they are greased so they aren't dry on initial startup too.

Agreed on the oem fuel line. I built a 272.

aftermarket fuel line failed twice. I am using echo fuel line with no grommets works fine. The line itself will shape itself in there. Line has been in there for 3 years with ethanol fuel still sitting in the tank. I dumped the fuel at the beginning of the season replaced w fresh e10 and still no line issues

Some of these parts sellers know not what they sell. I see bad listing all the time for 1124 Stihl parts.

I been running AM seal from Hyway for years in commercial work saws with no issues. Gaskets are hit and miss but Hyway was always good so far.

Grease fouls the spark plugs so wash it out and oil them with 2smoke oil.

Got the parts for the 272 top end today. Bought what supposed to be a 272 intake block from HL and
What I got looks identical to the intake that was on the 61. are the 272 intakes noticeably different?

I must’ve been half asleep last night when I was looking over that intake. Looking at it now I can definitely see the difference inside. I thought I read the 272 intake would be a little longer but these are the same outside dimensions just the 272 is bigger inside.

One thing I noticed was the hole for the impulse Is smaller on the 272. Is that by design or because it’s an aftermarket part maybe it is supposed to be bigger?
