The 2100 IPL's say it takes oil cap 501 56 45-02 for saws starting in '79. Earlier saws used 501 56 45-01 which is a vented large diameter black cap. I have little experience with these saws and didn't know if the later 501 56 45-02 cap was vented or non-vented. Anybody know?

Thanks!

I've seen the 298/2101/2100 saws run with dual vented, dual non-vented, and a mix of both, provided the saw runs fine I just keep whatever cap setup it had on it.

Thanks but that's the problem, the one I have doesn't have caps. I have several 480's which share caps with the 2100 and I have seen what you say with them also. Every possible combo imaginable. But it really comes down to whether the 2100 has a separate oil tank vent or not. I haven't torn one down to know.
