Alternator shops use a di-electric spray to coat windings but it is thin.
Maybe use some of that then the liquid tape or JB.

To re-wind the coil don't you have to brake the outer shell off ? If you do do they just dip it in some type of compound?

I just used to give them the coil and the specs out of the shop manual. They would take it apart, measure the thickness of the wire, compute for another 10% resistance and then re-wind it with that length of wire. They then would dip the coil in their insulating mix. Never had a problem with a re-wound coil.

A form of red pigmented shellac has been used since Shep was a puppy to insulate motor windings. Goes by the trade name of Glyptal .

Okay now a story .Caterpillar D4 series 2T ,1943 faulty coil on the pony motor .I used the mag points to fire two coils like a battery ignition .One rainy day I delved into the problem . Cut the insulation off the coil of an Isaiccson magneto that had not been made in nearly 40 years .Started unwinding the coil and found an open .Made a contact point, worked .Used the Glyptal to reinsulate the coil and as of yet have had no problem with it .That would have been in the 1980's

Gubment version...but this two-part Double/Bubble Epoxy is some kinda bad ass heat/petroleum/moisture resistant epoxy...would work fine for this application. I’m sure most epoxies would do the same.

I tried that in a Bendix Scintilla coil from a Remington Logmaster type. [emoji37]

.003” dia copper secondary winding was too brittle and corroded to get it tinned and soldered. [emoji2959]

There's couple of tricks to remove any moisture that could be in the coil if any .Toss the whole kit and caboodle in a big bowl of dry rice for a day or three ,brand doesn't make difference Uncle Bens would work as well as Minute brand .Put it in the oven at about 225 for a few hours while the lady of the house is not present because many women don't take kindly to that .Hot tongue cold shoulder might follow ,don't go there .

I do 99% of the cooking that goes on in this house. She won't say anything. Not sure if she knows where the kitchen is.

No you don't use the coil to flavor the rice . My goodness if you did and fed it to the dog he'd have to lick his butt to get the taste out if his mouth As far as "kitchen " duties quite frankly I'm a better cook than the sweetie who is abiding with me .Besides that I can do laundry ,operate a sewing machine as well .I'm tidy in the house but a real slob any where else and my shop and garage reflect that .

Dry Rice has been used on mobile phones. As an easily available desiccant when they get damp,,,

So it would make sense
Edit googling moist phones and drying with rice would give bestist ways of operations.

Sit the coil on top of the hotwater heater. I have a gas HW heater so the flue adds a little heat.
Moderate heat over time will get moisture out. Fast high heat will have water trapped inside the little cramped areas.
You want slow evaporation not making steam.

Got the coil clean. Put it in coffee cup full of rice. Will let it sit for three days. I got a gas oven with a pilot light in it. Will remove coil from rice and put it in oven for a day or two.

You got to be careful with using gas flames as a heating and drying process. If your putting it all in the oven..

I forget the exact equation, but when burning gas you get heat + CO2 + water. Different gas gives more or less heat and water and co2.

Now I’ve said that if your putting the coil in the rice and in a semi sealed container in the oven. I think your be fine
