Question for your guys...
What factory square chain rolls is available? I know about 72CL, but does 73CL still exist? Other brands?

How much side plate is necessary/desireable? I was bumping around Dad's shed and basement and found an amazing number of old used and worn out chains. I grabbed a worn out one to try my hand at making some race esque chain but by the time I evened up and cleaned up the cutters on the grinder there wasn't much left. If I did it again, and I may, i would just set the grinder straight up and down with no tilt for the clean up. Think it will run? It is a touch beaky. 20200106_213105.jpg 20200106_212917.jpg 20200106_212754.jpg 20200106_213013.jpg 20200106_212940.jpg

Mike, I'm sure you're 100% correct. I am curious how much side plate is helpful/beneficial. Does a single bevel side plate have an advantage over a double bevel? I feel like I've seen nice race chains both ways. I don't see why any hogging out under the side plate like I have a ton of would be at all helpful.

Anything over .050” or so won’t be cutting much if anything. It just carries the chips out.

Those will cut..

A few times..

Then they’ll break as soon as they hit anything bad.
