Probably .025-.028 or so. We shall see. Lol.Lol hopefully the rakers are tall.
Looks pretty good Jeff. I prefer to fully convert as well. An expert once described the round side pate gathering and tearing as it travels through the wood, and also physically showed me this happening. After the conversion, your end will be much smoother, no little fibers sticking out. That totally straight side plate cuts better that a fully round or partially round one. This was a 3/8 round file conversion chain. I am doing better, but still a long way to go. Chain was basically rocked by previous owner.
You cleanin up the rocked chains with a round file first? Thanks Jason.
The top plate was rounded a little on a few teeth, that also affected the point. So I had to go a little more than just the normal conversion. THEN, throw in my learning curve screw ups, and..... thus I reshaped it even more. LOL
Mostly I had to clean up the tooth from being rocked from the guy I got them from. I got 10 chains along with the saw. He just kept buying new chains when they were dull. LOL
Didn't want to buy a file. He owned a fence company and just cut cedar 4x4s. Lol
Good practice for anyone learning to square file.
I clean em up with round first. Saves on the expensive files. But if it’s practice your after then file awayNo sir. I went right to square.
Should I have used the round first?
Whats fath?
Thank you for the tip. I will round file then convert next time. I have a few others to do. Should make my life easier that way. [emoji106]I clean em up with round first. Saves on the expensive files. But if it’s practice your after then file away
Fath off fapper...Whats fath?
Not 4 me! Have seen the dif in milling speed with very little difference in the surface of the slabs between ripping and square chisel after air drying for a few days. It's just a fad. Overrated. It'll blow over.
