I did some more "practicing" tonight. I wasnt concerned with finishing a chain just really focusing on how changing the file effected the cutter. I dont have paint on my phone so ill try describe my question with Matts pic.View attachment 17254
See where the file starts at the corner of the tooth and ends at the curve on the underside corner. How critical or what changes as that point moves up or down on the corner? This angle is reletive to how far you are getting into the tie strap below that cutter.
Im sure it is cus I didnt sharpen that one.If all the cutters look like that,it should ne a super smooth cutting saw.
Hey Matt, you still got that wicked little mini-mac?This is the chain porn thread.
Don't tell Moobs.
He thinks we're self moderating.
Lol..Hey Matt, you still got that wicked little mini-mac?
More angle toward back = faster more agressive..I did some more "practicing" tonight. I wasnt concerned with finishing a chain just really focusing on how changing the file effected the cutter. I dont have paint on my phone so ill try describe my question with Matts pic.View attachment 17254

No..
I sold the silly thing..
Got a 7-10 Mac to replace it...
Starts like crap, but runs like a banshee after it gets going!
I was kinda thinkin it might be but had only seen pictures of it since my dealer didn't stock it.
That looks wickedly sharp
I recently picked up a couple loops of Stihl 63PS chain to run on my ported ms260.
I want to try a square file one of the chains.
I've had good luck with 3/8 and .325 square.
My question is this, should I maybe run the chain through my round grinder first to rough set the top plate angle before I try filing it? Any tips or suggestions are also welcomed
I have double bevel files and the triangular files. I'll see which file fits bests.
Any thoughts about depth gauge heights?I'd just hit the tie straps with a dremel like in my picture above. Your really gonna nail them if your doing working angles.
