My flock philosophy?

I am more of a tap and go kinda guy.
I hold it and tap it with bar wrench.
I leach my low pretty good so I have a little squirt prime bottle that I use in the morning after I tap out the filter. It works out and starts first half pull.
If it gets to the point I have to use mixed gas on the hill then it's time to take one filter back at night.
Then I would use powder laundry soap in the inside and run hot water through it and then fill the sink with as hot water as possible and let it soak. Drain it off when it cools and repeat in fresh hot laundry water. I may just leave it all night and cold rinse from the inside to start.

What's an air filter, and why do they need cleaning? o_O

I just rotate saws, take the one that at the time has the most power. :D
I occasionally ad one to my flock, that way I don't have to know anything about air filters, chains, bars, tune. ;)

I find hitting them with copmressed air from inside out not that useful on round pleated HD2 style filters. Tap, air or Stihl shop vac, every once in a while I wash them even the older ones that don't say there washable....they r. But out in the field just tapping them on something hard like a wood round keeps you in the game.
