Hello,

Not sure how this happened but I need some suggestions on a Honda GX240. It was surging. Instead of rebuilding/cleaning the carb (engine is about 18 years old, actually could be around 20) I bought an OEM carb from JacksSmallEngine.com. I replaced the carb and the gaskets, replaced the fuel filter, put in an OEM spark plug. I go to start it up and nothing. It’s getting a spark. I tried starter fluid, and nothing. I put a little gas in the cylinder head and nothing. I checked the compression and it doesn’t even hit 50 PSI. I understand it should get 120 PSI. I took the valve cover off and both valves are moving, neither is stuck. What the heck is going on with it. I cannot figure it out.

Low cranking compression is normal as it holds the exhaust valve open on the compression stroke as a compression release. Make sure your governor linkage is hooked up correctly and it moves freely. If it's binding and the throttle is closed you could have flooded it. What sparkplugs did you put in in? Brand and number.
