Yeah, I've got big dog jealousy since I don't have any like that. I've never made any dogs but could I guess since I have a plasma cutter and a mill. I have a Poulan 3400 for sale on here that has a dog on it and I think that's the first saw of that series I've owned that had one. Not sure why they all have been removed over the years. That ones my shelf queen anyhow. So more for looks.

It has the holes ther. I just used a short heavy wood screw. What did you bolt that too?
Bigger spikes are good for a course bark tree. What does a deeper dog do that a smaller dog wont do? I get it in heavy soft bark or punky wood. But in my mind it only shortens the bars length of cut. I will admit they look cool. I have never built any but if I did it would be a happy medium, so you cant damage the case of the saw and still keep as much bar length cut.
Who here has ever slipped off a exhaust/bar bolt stud and stuck themselves into a nasty gunk covered dog? Bleeds for a while doesn't it. Thank goodness for shop rags and electrical tape. AKA band aid.
The ones I make are 11ga (0.125") stainlessWhat gauge steel are you guys using?
I made some patterns for a set, but haven't had them cut yet...
That bottom pic insnt the homemade spike i wanted to see.lol
I measured some on a few different saws, and most were between .090" and .110". I was thinking right in between would be just about right... is that close to 12 gauge? The ones I make are 11ga (0.125") stainless
12ga stainless is what I made mine out of. I sold that saw shortly after I made it so I'm not sure how it held up but I think 12ga is pretty typical at least for the smaller ones.I measured some on a few different saws, and most were between .090" and .110".
