I just can not wrap my head around how the piston can travel up a bore to within 5 deg of TDC and bind until 80 deg or so after. I am assuming deg wheel was indexed. If were not dealing with prototype/experimental parts I would be checking the connecting rod for straightness.
That is his builder case, it's only used for port timing and taking measurements. I know AL has built a lot of 26's on that case

I agree. Not sure what's happening here. The degree wheel is indexed. Didn't check yet, but it's within a degree of being true as is.

I'm all ears. It will go up smoothly then completely bind.

Yes, this is my builder case. I have a case for each model I port.

A builder case it the only way I can be assured, 100%, that no metal/plating dust winds up in the actual saw I'm building. It's a lot easier to take measurements as you go. Unless the final jug goes into a hot USC, then soap and water with a brush, then rinse and compressed air, it goes nowhere near its finsl destination case.

The rod is not bent, and I'd say at least 20 026/260 jugs have been ground off this case at this point.

Not on the ex.

Is there a reason why a product like
9c8424e003e765dfd18cf1f23f5cdfd8.jpg

Won't work?
Of course Al could just weld it up also...

It would have been awful if someone had bolted that together and tried to run it as is. Would have been another 026 in the dumpster.
Well...

I tossed the OEM slug on it and got the same result. Binds up at some point after TDC. It's bizarre.

All I can say is I've never had this happen in an OEM jug, ever.

This jug has a use. I'm saving it for it's fins. I can cut them off for repairs.

Interesting Dan.

Welding, not so sure the plating wouldn't warp.

I did purchase low temp aluminum brazing rod. The kind you see at car shows. "Weld Aluminum with a propane torch". That stuff.

This jug could be a good candidate for it. I wish I could figure out what's catching the piston. I'm not wasting more time on that though. Not today at least.

Is it binding up with no rings on it?
Edit: Never mind, I just watched the video...

There is definitely something wierd going on....
Seems to start to catch about 10° btdc.. and free back up WAY past that on the way back down....
Does it do it at the same deqree markers if you turn it backwards??

Yup. 10* to 40* it catches.

Piston to jug clearance .002

I sanded the port edges and the band to chamber interface. Also brake honed the entire jug bore. Same thing still happens.

Maybe I'm not square on the base. I'm gonna take .002 more off and make sure I'm square again.

That is really odd, you would think it would be symmetrical.... Taper, out of round, port edge hanging up, burr in plating.... should be at the same height/degree in either direction of piston travel....
I'm sure you will figure it out....
It will be interesting to see what it is...

So I got mine all together....
Started, ran, tuned.... sort of... then started running pig rich and would die....
Removed carb and check valve was leaking,. replaced with a different carb body with a working check valve.... Same thing...
Keeping in mind that this passed a pressure / vac test and is a complete rebuild...
Can this much Freeport cause this rich running?
Or is it more than likely still a carb issue....

Had to walk away from it for a bit.

Went back to look at it and the bottom end is partially flooded with mix....

Just a lil frustrated with this one.
Was a back burner project, trying to make a couple saws out of multiple carcasses that weren't quite as advertised...

OK derail ended...
Carry on.
