Thanks again SOS. I'll definitely pick up one of those Stihl chains soon. Hey, so based on the recommendations of others I cut the cat out of the muffler on my 4300. Should I keep the spark arrestor in or remove it as well?

You can leave it out, if you don’t care that it’s gone. It’ll leave it a little less restricted that way. I’d open up a little more under the factory opening too.
I usually add an extra port to mine, and put screens in both, but that’s just me.
It’s definitely louder. Not sure if it’s makes a big difference in the saw though.

Here’s one I did a few years ago.

That looks awesome. I'll probably just leave it like it is with the screen in. Do you use a tachometer to tune your saws? Is it difficult to do on a 4300? What rpm do you shoot for?

No, I just tune by ear. I have a tach, but more or less never use it. You’ll have to richen it up a little after a muffler mod.

Mine likes 13,000 rpm

Mine likes 13,000 rpm. I would advise against going faster than that due to a shortened service life and minimal performance gains. I run 40:1.
