I agree with your well reasoned thesis here Kevin. The problem with this video is: how is a person who doesn’t know any better supposed to take any message away from the video other than that he “got lucky” and wear ppe? There was no explanation of what went wrong or that anything even did go wrong.

Maybe he covered it in the follow up video. Idk I didn’t spend my time watching that one, but for someone who only watched that video and doesn’t know what you, me, or the rest of the fellers here do there really isn’t any teaching being done from a very teachable moment. It’s just entertainment without explanation.

It is kind of an interesting video. He makes almost the same mistakes on all the trees he cuts before that. He never looks up, crosses the back of the stump and never needs to. He seems more focused on making a video than safety. It is a very basic tree and he absolutely gets smoked. And then seems to have little understanding how lucky he is that he didn’t get hurt. And it shows how effective PPE can be. Hopefully someone can learn from it.

I did see his face afterwards. It was kinda in shock and all that. But he carried on. With the filming. Sort of said don’t need that hat anymore

he should had counted them lucky stars. And rested for the day.

and dead trees shed limbs a lot more easy than other trees, although all trees shed limbs. That’s why we assess trees and everything around them before we fell them.

i had a tree the other day that I put a rope up incase it got limb tied. And I got a bit of flack about doing it. But after it did get hooked up. It was a simple rock it back and pull it out. the other tree it was hooked to was dead, it had to come out as well. The guy I work with don’t like felling two trees at the same time.

All in all it worked out easier than if I didn’t put a rope up and waste more time hanging around the base of the tree
