After long bucking cuts, and before shutting down the saw, I always hold the bar tip over a round and blip the throttle till excess oil sprays off the bar tip.
My logic is:
- the chain and bar groove get soaked in oil (lubing and cooling)
- the chain can take some excess heat away from the clutch (and as such the crank shaft and every neighboring parts)
- the chain moving around the bar allows it to air cool
People look at me with blank stares when I stand there and blip the throttle for 30-60 seconds before shutting the saw down - I just try to ignore them.
