Mill some of that turkey oak and make a couple of handles. Good temporary fix. Maybe try duct tape? Lol. It fixes everything.

I want a cornelian cherry handle!
Those are deemed indestructible by the old folk here.

The issue is to find a straight and long enough piece to make a 40" handle out of it.

My left hand tends to slide over that handle section when I switch from chunking on the ground to splitting to size on the splitting block. :(

I have some thermal shrink tubing that I purchased years ago, might slide that over in a couple overlapping layers!? o_O

I will watch not to stress the handle too much, but I will need a new one no doubt.

Your pretty handy with a drill, a couple of holes, some glue & some dowels can be a lasting fix. I've made a few handles out of extremely hard pieces of wood and while they will last a long time, some flex is good. There is good reason hickory & other species have been used for centuries, it has a good balance of properties.

Holy moly. A whole field full of split wood.

36 trees drug to the landing. 7 tanks of fuel through the 044, 462, & 2171. Two guys 5 hours of splitting and cutting. One 79 year old land owner set for 2023 winter and one trailer load of 1.5 cord for myself.
Edit: two x27 hand split. Couldn’t do it faster with a splitter.
