I’m not liking the grain run out on this. What do you guys think? Start over with a Billet that has better grain orientation? This one is running about 35* from vertical, hence the run out.

Just a little concerned with strength. There are still runs of grain that go from one end to the other, but it would be stronger without those couple layers of run out.I think that handle will really look sharp when finished. I'd keep going with it. Too nice to start over.

Just asking, but aren't the grains going the wrong way on that handle?
Understood. Still probably plenty strong. I tend to be drawn to nice grain and the handle just looks really nice. I want to get some ash for some projects.Just a little concerned with strength. I bought a wooden handle for my maul a bit back. It’s grain doesn’t run the way i prefer it. It’s been a good handle. I think you’ll be ok on that.Yes this one is quarter-sawn , so really it shouldn’t be that strong its larch and not flat sawn I will use it myself and see how it lasts
Most of the ash handles I have in are quarter or diamond sawn so it’s a big ????
