Fellas, if this is ghey then I hope I become the gheyest person that ever lived. Remington 700 ADL Sporter, 32 grains IMR 8208, 140 grain Sierra Game King at 150 yards off a bipod. Would have been a three shot group but my trigger control is terrible.

Spent some time with the older non-Accutrigger Axis .308 today. This trigger is pretty terrible even after polishing and installing the spring kit. I went ahead and ordered a Rifle Basix trigger, hopefully that will be a major improvement

I have a Basix trigger on a model 10, very happy with it after some minor cleanup. It's a heavy bench gun so light pull is a good thing but I can adjust it to work reliably a bit too light, where it breaks almost as soon as I can feel my finger touch it.

Sounds good. If I can get it as good as the bone stock and never adjusted Accutrigger on my other one I will be quite happy.

My .50 Maxi-Bullet mold came in and I poured a handful of slugs with it. They came out looking great and weigh a bit over 360 grains each. Will be interesting to shoot them side by side with the .44 sabots and bullets given to me by a fine hent here. If I can get Trapdoor .45-70 power level with decent accuracy I'll be happy.

Installed the Rifle Basix trigger in the Axis. Got the pull down to 3 pounds or so. There is some creep, but I don't feel comfortable reducing the sear engagement anymore to get rid of it. Took it for a test drive today and wow, big difference! Scored a few cloverleaf's at 100 yards, look forward to hunting with it next week.

Been trying to work up an easy shooting woods load for my Winchester 94's. The 94 is, I think, the perfect woods rifle. Slim and trim and points like a good shotgun. Aperture sights aim faster than scopes or buckhorn so that's what I use on them. The 94 doesn't shoot well with stronger loads, or at least mine don't. My 1" load for the Marlins is all over the place.

Anyhoo, I loaded up some with 21-22 grains of Hodgdon 4198 (a fast powder used in .223) with some 150 grain Hornady slugs. I use receiver sights on my 94's, and 21.8 grains is doing about an inch at 65 yards, which is as far as I can hit anything with sights. According to the (optimistic) hodgdon data this load is clocking around 1975 fps, so probably 1850 in my rifle.

There is a point in the evening where I don't have enough light to use sights effectively but a scope will still work. As the evening progresses, I can still see the front sight but what exactly it is pointed at is indistinct. Then I start pulling shots usually to the right. This evening in the fading light I made a nice three shot group but it was some 3.5" up and to the right. In daylight it probably would have been centered.

The giant buck I took in 2021 was in the fading light with a little Weaver 1-3x20 atop my favorite Marlin. The scope allowed me to place that slug right where it needed to be and he was in the dirt 20 yards later. With sights in those lighting conditions, I probably could have hit him but the bullet may well have struck a less than optimal spot and he could escape. I may take my sighted 94 out in the late morning when the light is good, but a scope is the way to go when the light is fading.

After spending more time with both Savage Axis .308 rifles yesterday, one Rifle Basix trigger and the other Accutrigger, I can honestly say I like the Rifle Basix better so far. Don't get me wrong, the Accutrigger has a really nice pull and I've never adjusted it. Thing is, the width and shape of the trigger doesn't work for me. Coiling my finger around it the way I do on all rifles, the sharp edges of the trigger and the safety blade don't feel good. I've read that with the Accutrigger it is best to keep your finger straight and gently press backwards. That's all good on the range, but when hunting my muscle memory is going to kick in and I'll pull the trigger the usual way. Anyhoo, I'm using the Rifle Basix rfle for hunting this year, will do more experimentation with the Accutrigger rifle later.

Don't know why I didn't think of this before. I have a sweet little Weaver 1-3x20 that I took my biggest deer ever with when it was on my Marlin. It would be perfect for the 94 in the woods. Went ahead and ordered some Weaver side mounts for it, hopefully it will work well. I love receiver sights, but I just can't shoot them at distance and rifle season is only 165 days long.

I picked up this S&W 610 in 10mm today. I have a pair of 625-8’s in 45acp that I love shooting and thought the 610, being basically the same gun chambered in 10mm, would compliment them. Being a moon clip gun, I can also shoot .40 S&W in it. I really like the 10mm cartridge but my Ruger 1911 throws the brass into orbit and I’m tired of chasing it.
I ordered grips, sights and good quality moon clips today. Looking forward to shooting it.IMG_0540.jpeg

Very nice sideiron there! Can it be used without moon clips in 10mm? I've always wanted a Blackhawk convertible with .40 and 10mm cylinders but they are vaporware here.

Son called yesterday and said Coast Guard has gone from Sig 40's to Glock 9mm and he is not impressed at all.

I love my Glocks. Nothing fancy, but they’re simple, go bang, and i can shoot them very well.

I recently sold my Sig 365xl and Shield 2.0 .40 because they just sat in the safe. They never felt good in my hand.

There's tons of full power nosler and other reloading data from the 2000s when the 10mm was far
More powerful than modern reloads.
This 135gr blue dot load is brutal on racoons
https://www.nosler.com/10mm-auto
And extremely accurate my if i could hold onto it my full size witness was 1" at 25yds from a rest with it.

Thanks for the link. I bet that 135gr Blue Dot load hits like a sledge hammer. The 10mm is a little hot rod but after the FBI dumped it in favor of the .40 S&W, it became a solution looking for a problem. Fortunately it stuck around and is slowly gaining popularity again.
