Hahaha, wow. I'm a big fan of the 6.5, but I don't push it to the max as is fashionable. My usual load is 32 grains IMR 8208 under a Hornady or Sierra 140, mid-range per Hodgdon data. I think of the 6.5 as the old .250 Savage necked up with a high BCE bullet and sharper shoulder - which is in fact what it is. Currently have a Remington 700 so chambered and planning to add a Savage Axis II to the battery at some point.

I'd go for a 6.5x55 or a 260 Remington before I bought a 6.5 Creedmoor.

The 6.5x55 is a spectacular cartridge, however I went with the Creedmoor because of cheap brass, numerous rifles available, and (as strange as it sounds) less case capacity. I don't hot rod any of my rounds, in fact all my rifle rounds are loaded under the norm. I find that this way they are more accurate, eat less powder, and still make things just as dead. Never cared about the .260.

I'm sorta unhappy with the 6.5 Creedmoor craze. Made the cost of my .260 bullets go up.
Around here rifle bullets all cost nearly the same in .24 through .30 caliber, within the same brand and product line of course. 100 grain .243's might cost 2 bux less than 150 grain .30's but that's about it.

Gave the Savage .308's some exercise today. Both of these rifles are way more accurate than I can hold. The only really annoying thing is the scope mount holes don't allow you much room to move the scope back. Meaning I have to scoot my face forward more than I would like. I found a set of Leupold offset rings in my gun junkyard and put them on the camo stock rifle, which moved the scope back enough for comfort. Burris makes a reversible Leupold style mount for the Axis, so I ordered that for the wood stock rifle.

Ok, let me rephrase. How about a 264-250 Savage Improved? Does that sound better?

The 6.5 might be ghey, but damn it is a good shooter and easy on the shoulder. I gave my Remington 700 some exercise before work today. This rifle just keeps trying to make small groups in spite of the dummy pulling the trigger. Did manage to get a couple of two and three shot cloverleafs still. Every gun I own is more accurate than I can take advantage of, but this one especially so. If I was forced to choose one centerfire rifle for the rest of my life it would have to be this or a Marlin 336.

I've never seen such hate for a cartridge.
