Those who know saws, is there a good quality (pro-level, not homeowner) saw between 35cc and 50cc? Of course, performance is key but weight is another one. For instance, at 50 cc, Dolmar and Makita have a good saw but it's about 12 lbs dry weight and an Echo 501p is only 10.4 lbs. That's a big difference! Any good brand is ok for this question. Curious what is available between my Stihl ms200 and 026 / Husky 346. TIA!

You already mentioned the Dolmar/Makita 5105, but I’d look at the 42cc saw they have as well, Dolmar 421/Makita 4300. Has mag cases. Punches well above its displacement, at least if you ask the guys that actually own them, and not the guys who’s never held one and read stats online.
If the wood isn’t too big, this is the saw I reach for first.

Makita also have the little 36cc EA3601. Quite a bit smaller and lighter. This is also a saw that runs very good for its displacement, is very well made, and surprised a few of us when we first ran it.

Just my $.02

There's the joh cutter / remington / blue max / earthquake /x-bull / other name generic China saw. All based off a pre-strato redmax 45cc pro saw. But go up to 58cc with the weight of a light 45cc saw. They're fun to tinker with but honestly it of the box they work and are unkillable. Downside is the supplied bar is a wonky size and the supplied chain is made from cheese, but put a small mount husky bar on it and name brand chain and it's good to go.

Those saws that "go up to 58cc with the weight of a light 45cc saw"... Do you know the weight of such a 58cc saw? I guess each step up in displacement on the base model is a tad more weight added but wondering how much they weigh.

If you had all 3 sizes in front of you with the stickers removed you couldn't tell which was which by picking it up. I should throw one in the scale though, I don't know the weight beyond it feeling really light.

All the Chinese 45-58cc saws are the same weight, they just have different bores/strokes.
I have those saws, they're pretty much the same size and weight as your 346 or 026. While im happy with my Chinese saws, if I had a 346 I would never buy a Chinese 50-60cc saw.

I was going to ask why, then I looked in the mirror. I have an 026, 241, and rear handle 200. Honestly, there isn’t a single thing that any of them do, that the others can’t. (They’re all wearing 16” bars).
I like small, light, powerful saws, they all fit the bill.

Dolmar 421 or Makita equivalent. Pro saw, simple, starts easy, 1/2 the price of anything close to it in performance.
My $.02, now we’re up to $.04!

Yep! There a good saw, I have 2 one dolmar and one Makita. I have and enjoy a 5100 as well. A little heavier but more power and feels great in the hands.
So how's $.07?
Sounds good to me John! I’m in the same boat as you, I have the Dolmar and the teal Makita version. The icing on the cake is that I have the black Maruyama version too.

Powerhead with no gas and some bar oil, 11lbs 12oz for the 52cc version. Mine is probably a little heavier than stock because I have the next size up carb.

Curious what is available between my Stihl ms200 and 026 / Husky 346.

1,7-2,7 kW and 3.8-5.0 kg -> MS241, MS261, CS-501SX

Dolmar PS421/460 are farm chainsaws! And as well as professional chainsaws PS4605/5105 they are too heavy for the power (may be good option if funds are limited, though).

I disagree. First of all it’s really hard to qualify something as for farm use vs commercial use, except for a marketing department to convince you to open up your wallet for higher costs.

Secondly, the Dolmar 421/Makita EA4300 has mag cases (not clamshell), and is very close to other ~40cc saws in power/weight. It is only .3kg (8oz) heavier and makes 0.2HP less than the Husqvarna 242XP. If you remove the cat in the muffler you likely have your 0.2HP back, and gain better AV, better parts support, a side chain adjuster, and strato tech for cleaner emissions and better fuel economy.

Compared to the Stihl 241Cm it makes 0.3HP less with only 0.4kg more weight, BUT it costs less than ~1/2 the price. It is a little wider and fatter than the Stihl, but if you’re not taking it up into a tree, it could make a lot of sense for you.
