It is possible, but since it is a straight shot into the cylinder, you should be able to use a pipe cleaner or small carb brush to run through and clear anything (or confirm that there isn't anything blocking).

Picked one of these up for that sort of thing at the local welding supply house.

I would absolutely choose used OEM over aftermarket for anything except maybe starter rope lol

Could you weld the broken part back on and retap the threads?

Sorry Shane, I put it away until I can work on it. There is about a 1/2 a thread with the flywheel on

Look for a good used OEM crank/crankcase, lots out there.

Indeed it would be difficult and would depend on your welding skills if it was something you would want to attempt, I would do it with my mig welder or Tig if thats something you have but it's not something I would attempt if stick was your only option. I don't think it being hardened is going to matter in this case.

Can you possible drill the end of the crank tap it m6 and use a washer? What do you have to lose.

That's a idea but you would have to drill in the exact center. I don't think I have the means to do that.
