You can drive a nail in green oak ,try it on air dried stuff that's been stickered for about 6 years .Best get out the drill .Even air dried ash gets so hard a finish nailer won't get-er done ,get the drill .I haven't found an easier way --just saying .

I was working on a couple of friends houses that where from the early 1900's. One had some 100 yr old Doug Fir and the other 120 yr old oak, both laugh at you and your puny nail. Even the best air nailers set on kill 3/4 drive a nail.
