Question:(and a dumb one at that) Are you doing this to run a coil other than what the saw came with?

The limited coil that this flywheel mates with is rare because they were prone to failure. By changing the keyway location you can run the very common 1300 coil from the 026 - 044.

The minuteman broaching kit is pretty good, but it only works on straight bores. If your flywheel is tapered to match a taper on the shaft this method doesn't quite work. You can however make a modified broach tool on a lathe, but it's going to be very flywheel specific.

Exactly. The flywheel key is cut straight rather than following the taper on the crank.......so it works out.

The flywheels with 2 keyways are quite a few degrees apart in rotation...interesting. Much better job than what mess I make with a saw file for some advance!
