This saw was assembled from a box of parts I got from @dall last summer.
Assembly went great, carb got an aftermarket kit at the time and ran great.
Last real use was up at @Stump Shot and it saw 2 or 3 refuels that day.

Used it a few times over the winter with no issue.

Took it to work one day to clean it up after use.

Noticed fuel pouring out carb while sitting on bench.
Swapped tank vent. Still did it.
Swapped different, non rebuilt carb, still did it.
Noticed if I opened filler cap, would quit.
Put saw out in my truck, it quit. Assumed it was the radiant heat at work causing the tank to build pressure.

3 weeks later, pulled off air filter, carb was dry. 5 minutes later and gas was pouring out of it.

Ordered walbro carb kit. Got sent a K10-HDC kit.
Reordered kit. Got a Chinese kit.
*f-word it, installed it.
Held 7 psi. Popped at 20 psi and bubbled until 5 psi..

Put carb on, runs ok

Set saw down and less than 1 minute later, started to fill crankcase again.

Crappy vid..

So, what is my dumbazz missing or doing wrong?

It's had 2 different carbs, 3 tank vents.
I noticed the o-ring on the flippy cap started to leak too.

I’ve had a couple 1128 carbs that would flood the crankcase when sitting even after putting in a new kit. One in particular was bad; the needle seat area wasn’t sealing.
Was your second carb oem Stihl? The aftermarket carbs for this series are all over the place for quality; I have two left on running saws and will be replacing them with oem.
I’ve also messed with tank vents on 460s more than any other series...

Pressure and vac test the tank through the fuel line at carb connection.

Dave, I can do that, but I think it might fail as I noticed the flippy cap o-ring was leaking fuel on my leg as I was pissing with the carb.
But, I should be able to do that today.

If I leave just enough fuel in the tank I can remove the cap it will stop flooding. Reinstall cap and you can watch the carb fill.

No. The kits were aftermarket. I ordered a Walbro kit. Got sent the wrong one. Reordered and got an aftermarket.
The 3 tank vents I installed were oem.
I used the original spring in the second carb. Cant recall which I used in the first.

I had a new 661 here that flooded bad when sitting or when used over 80 degrees. It was unusable. I polished the needle seat with a q tip and ever so slightly lowered the metering lever. It stopped flooding after that.

When it first happened it was single digit temps outside and I brought it inside at work.
So far since it started happening the temp has been single digits to upper 50's.
The last carb got a few cycles through my ultrasonic cleaner, and blow dry, but didnt touch the seat with anything but compressed air.

I’ve had saws do this as well when exposed to a large temperature swing.
Just the nature of temperature / pressure relationships.
Sometimes the gas can is about to explode, sometimes it’s shriveled up and about to implode.
Start a flooded saw with no choke, throttle wide open and pull it like it owes you money.

Heated handles Nancy?
:D

Gots to keep my bish mittens buttery soft.

This thing will flood without a temperature swing. Saw can be sitting next to the gas can for days. Add fuel and it will promptly vomit it out the carb.
Tank wont build pressure no matter how long I try with my mityvac. Pull a vacuum, it just draws the small remainder of fuel up.

lol why do you think i got rid of it

Just got off the phone with Steve.
We concluded that it's your fault. You must have talked mean the these carbs at some point before sending them to me.

My best guess is your carb is leaking. I've seen it on other 046/460 and on 660s. Sometimes adjusting the fuel lever can solve it, but I would try a different carb and see if the problem goes away.

I was able to fix the problem with the 660 by adjusting the lever, but it will not always work. Make sure the carb is clean and there is no dirt in there.

Saw seems to run very well :-)

Good Luck with it.

Must be the blue oil.

Has anyone yet posed the question "what brand of oil and what ratio is best to keep my chit from flooding?"

Doing pretty good. Almost 60 yesterday, got some sunburn. Today, 30 and freezing rain, snow on the way.

Took another carb that had some corrosion by the choke and pressure tested it. It was leaking like a sunofabitch on the pump side gasket.

Took the carb that was on the saw, polished the inlet seat. Took the needle, lever and spring from the corroded carb and installed.
Slightly lowered lever from where it was previously.
Popped around 19psi, but dropped at held at 10psi.
Installed carb. Saw fired right up. Let it run a bit and shut it off.
After 10 minutes it was still dry in carb.
Will check again later.
