Anybody found the perfect firewood saw yet?

Your buddy's saw. Way better than using your own. Just run it 'till the chain dulls and hand it back.

I had a neighbor with a similar philosophy....except he ran the chain into the ground, then neglected to refill the oil tank. Effed up a fairly new bar, and a brand new loop of chain. Needless to say, it was his first and only time he used one of my saws. I didn't discover it, until I opened the case a few days after he returned it.......

Exactly. I have a friend here in Utah, whom also happens to live a few blocks away, and when we go cut wood for the Girls Camp I let him use one of my "ported" saws. He grew up on a ranch, and is familiar with proper cutting techniques, so my worries are few.

I use my old rancher 55 most of all the time it's stock. I pick it up over my ported 346. I really like the 346 a hella lot. Old habits I guess. I wish I was a member when I took out hundreds and hundreds of trees with the 55 and a 455 Damn homeowner junk... Lol. You can do a hell of a lot of firewood work with whatever you may have as long as you use your brain. Be safe and a little creative once in a while. That being said I would like a 372 or the j red model but I'm just afraid it would sit too often

If I had to push an average joe at a saw I'm not sure what I'd recommend Shame you can't buy new 350 anymore. Reminds me there's one on craigslist here cheap... I have no use for it I could buy it but I wouldn't flip it. I'd keep it...

I like to look at saw speed this way sometimes, If mostly bucking, I don't mind if my saw isn't so fast, I get a longer rest between cuts, letting the saw do the work, especially if a long day. When there is just a little work to do it's fun to just blister right through with a hotter saw and have fun. Like a faster saw for felling(not crazy fast) don't like to dally doing that. All good.

Just finished dropping, limbing and bucking up 7 cord of firewood with my 1998 H- 350. Tough little saw, never gave me any trouble what so ever. That makes over 30 cord since I started counting.

Along with my 372 I have a 346xp with no base gasket and a loud muffler mod. All kinds of power. Cuts nearly as fast as a 372 in smaller wood while being a lot lighter. Great firewood saw.

261 with a 16" bar and a 661 with a 20" bar is what I use. I have longer bars if I need them and the 661 is overkill for a 20" but I use what I have and this combo with the extra bars handles everything I encounter. My CSA is pushing me to buy a 70cc class saw, I'm fighting it off for now......

2171 with 28" full skip for the big stuff and a ms230 with 16" for limbs and small stuff. I use my 2171 mainly because it's dead reliable and handles the cottonwoods like a champ.

Update, I cut wood this Thursday with a 25" bar on my 661. This will be my go to bar length when using this saw for firewood in the future. Balances much better and is easier on the back.

For years my firewood, and only, saw was an 038M, that I bought new in the 80's. While I still use that saw for firewood, I most often find myself reaching for a 20" 562xp or 18" ms261. I generally choose the lightest saw that will easily handle the task at hand.

I just got done spending the day cutting and I really like my 40cc / 60cc combo
That little Dolmar 421 is just a solid little all around saw but man grabbing that 6100 is a treat. Everything is just more refined and a joy to use. I sure am glad I bought it when I did. The price has went up a $100 .

Those saws are too heavy and bulky for their size. Plus the inboard clutch make them handle awful.
