As an idea, its novel, but as someone with access to a 3D printer at the local library and some skills in CAD I'm really surprised by what he is charging. If he at least had them printed using better technology like SLA, DLP or SLS, or even via a commercial entity like Shapeways I could see justifying that cost, but via FDM on a hobby grade home printer? I think not.
I'm glad he found an interest for his idea, so I guess charge what the market will bear.
