This KS 1111 cylinder has factory installed heli-coils in ALL the holes. If you pinch the pic to enlarge it they are very apparent. All cyls should be made this way. 51448AEE-C7F9-48CE-A6FA-EE70ACD96759.jpeg
Very interesting.

After looking it over more closely, the hole for the decompression valve does not have one in it. It will certainly extend the life of the cylinder because it’s very thin there around the plug hole, and I was able to extract a broken screw from one of the holes on top and I believe that was easier because of the helicoil. It’s a good idea.

I have personally had good and bad luck with heli- coils. Sometimes they work great and other times they come out with the bolt, and you have to reinstall a coil. I don’t know if it’s better. I prefer thread certs or how McCulloch used standard nuts with retaining clips, that’s a pretty killer. If you strip a thread, is a 20 cent nut and it 100%

Holley fuel bowls are 12-24 , they probably sell a heli or insert for their main bodys.

Yes. Back in the bad old days I ran a Holley on my vet. It’s why we have the kit.

But watched one burn down from a fuel leak. We changed to a Q-jet. No wetted gaskets on them .[emoji108]

It’s interesting you would post that. I went with my mom to pick up her new (to her) 67’ Coupe deVille
and watched as is burned down after the salesman started it for her. We heard a pop and then saw smoke.
That car had a quadrajet on it but it turned out that the inline fuel filter broke (made of glass) sprayed gas until the sparks from the distributor set off the fire. Car was completely consumed by the time the fire dept arrived. They called us the following day day to explain what happed. They asked for her insurance information. My dad laughed his ass off when the salesman asked him for that. I was too young to understand what was going on until it was explained to me years later. Oh, my dad stopped payment on his check. Lol

Yeah the new coated blue Holley Gaskets dont leak like the old ones could.
Those cadillacs had the little slide window in the distributor to adjust the points while the motor was running, pretty slick.

Very interesting.
All Teledyne Continental aircraft engines are helicoiled every threaded hole from the factory, including pipe thread. Anyone that doesn’t like/trust helicoils doesn’t know how to install them correctly.

They should’ve done that with the crankcase on my 461. Idk if it was crap magnesium batch or what but when I pulled the one bolt off the coil to swap it the threads pulled right out with the bolt.
