I read a neat article once about the phrase roll tide. During the civil war there was a song about a confederate submarine that was sunk. The song frequently phrased roll Alabama roll. Supposedly that phrase was popular into the late 1800’s, early 1900’s until someone starting using it at Alabama football games as roll tide roll. Not sure how accurate that is, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

Bama fans should thank Kentucky fans for gifting them the “Bear”. A popular story at one time was that the year Bryant won the national title in Lexington the athletic department had their annual banquet. Adolph Rupp was gifted a Cadillac, Paul Bryant was gifted a customized zippo lighter. Nevertheless, he left the following year for College Station, Texas. A few years later, Tuscaloosa. The rest they say.....is history lol.

Crimson tide came from when bama played auburn back in the early 1900's in a heavy storm. The mud made their jerseys stain crimson. Hence Roll Tide!

They were originally called ‘Crimson and White’ or ‘Crimson White’ from that muddy game you refer to. It was the Tie game with Auburn (in which Auburn was heavily favored to beat them) where “Crimson Tied” was a newspaper headline that became famous.

But being an Abalama fan from Tenn, it doesn’t really matter, does it...........?
