Has anyone compared the cs490 to the Husqvarna 550? I'm thinking about getting a few 50cc saws. They would replace my Stihl 024s.

If speed is no issue, you can buy two 490's for the price of one 550. If you want an adjustable carb, I don't think any of the 550's have them whereas Echo still does.

If you want a trouble free saw that will actually start and run consistently = dont buy a 550 , they are the most updated model because everyone before it was a turd.

490 is the most used saw I own. Runs 14" 3/8lp and used for anything that bar will handle.

Did you do a muffler mod on your 490? Every Echo I have ever owned has been ultra reliable.

Yes I did the normal MM. Only takes about 10 minutes.

I remember taking off a cs400 muffler. I'd swear it weighed a pound. Probably an exaggeration but it was heavy.

There not that heavy once the cat is removed. I was shocked by how choked up the 400 muffler is.

You already have a better saw in the 490. Same displacement with proline construction instead of plastic. I like Huskies, but their larger homeowner saws are overpriced for what you get. If you want more powah than your 490, get a 590. I've seen them NIB on Fleabay for 4 bills.

Yes indeed. My 400 ran well with the stock muffler but I really don't like having all that heat next to the cylinder.

Will the 4910 top end fit the older 490/501 saws?

Picked up a 4910 today. Broke it in cleaning a pine off the roof of the garage.

Squish is usually .060” plus or minus .005”, compression is 150ish

Those seem like pretty good numbers. If you drop cylinder you are going to have a lot of intake duration

Sweet! Considering that those are something of an oddity I'm surprised how often they turn up. Same for the Dolmar rotary.

They do seem to be more plentyfull latley. Few months back ther was a pair. Echo and john deere twins. Guy wanted 600 each. They were in real nice shape too
