I really like the Dolmar ps-6100 I was hoping they would come out with a 70cc version but don't think this will happen SO was thinking maybe it could be modded to 70cc with a bigger factory top end or cylinder bored out and replated and running a larger dolmar piston out of one of there other saws.... any thoughts on what p and c may fit this chassis and work well on it or if the cylinder would have enough thickness to stand overboring?

I don't think it is possible. But both @Mastermind and @Miller Mod Saws can port a 6100 to flat out rip. Even in Stock form the 6100 is a great saw.

I agree with CoryeyB...porting/gas flowing/muffler mod is a good way to go . You don't want to machine out the cylinder as they usually are coated in Factory spec plating which you want to avoid damaging

Replating would be an option if you bored it out. Not sure what the bore size is on it but probably 45-46 mm.

I don't think you would ever find a good piston as there a strato motor. Of course there a pretty large case. I beat a 7910 cylinder would come close to fitting under that hood but you would be doing it all from scratch. Lol

I think Makita buying out dolmar will slow down development of new product unfortunately

They have owned them for 20 years. So nothing will change other then some us distribution and a name plate oh and all will be red and black in the US. No more teal Makita chainsaw

CoreyB good to know and hope your right if they do a 70cc version of the 6100 I will buy it as soon as it comes out and its heading strait to Tennessee!
They may have a real hard time putting something together better than the 7900. It is not much larger and heavier than the 6100 but a bit more bit. Like a pack of Piranhas!

Well I wouldn't mind seeing the 6400 and 7310 replaced with a strato saw just over 70cc but I'll be pissed if they do away with the 7910. Lol.
Me too. I hope they'll use the 6100 platform and do a bigger bore. The 7910 I hope will stay for a few more years at least. Still waiting on a new 90cc to replace the 9010 but I doubt they sold 100 a year in the US.

Better for limbing and moderate bar lengths as the power for the size and weight would be great and the air filtration design is one of the best imo. they would go 6100 for 60cc 6100 big bore for 70cc drop there 6400 and 7300 saws, 7910 for 80cc and maybe build a 90+cc version of it with high output oiler and a 6100s air filtration system for stumping

the 6100 is great the only comlaint I have is the mount size.

Complaint? - why that little puppy can mount a lightweight Narrow Kerf bar bar to make it a lighter, better handling saw that cuts even faster. You may have to go up a pin on the sprocket and drop the rakers. NK chain has notoriously small cutting angle from the factory as it is generally used on small displacement saws. You need to drop the rakers a fair bit to make some chips.

I would rather a small mount too in this displacement. One of the reasons I have a 555 husky instead of a 562xp is for this very reason. Now 70+cc saws are a different story. I usually run the smallest bar I can get away with, why pay top dollar for a high power to wieght ratio saw and ruin it with a big heavy slab of solid metal hanging off it? Bar options today have never been better with the lights availible and various laminates and RSN's.

If you do the math on using a NK bar the desire for 70cc fades a bit. A NK bar cuts 15-20% faster, say 15%. If you multiply 60cc times 1.15 you end up with 69cc. Not only is that a cheaper option than boring, but the saw will be lighter and handle better.

See if you can borrow a NK bar and try it, you may find it a better option for the type of cutting you do.
