So the 6400 springs are different than the 7900 springs? Lighter?

Hi Mason, I just looked in my Dolmar/Smurf (sorry Makita) parts. I have the 7900 spring and clamp for you. I will put it in a padded USPS bag and send it to you and drop it off at the post office tomorrow morning. You may receive it on Monday if it doesn’t snow too bad.

Mason, I just finished packaging the parts. I also included a T25 torx thin wall bit used to loosen the inside screw in the spring. Once you see the bit, you will understand what I mean.

I am making a trip now to the Main Post Office in Rhode Island and dropped off the package. This Main Post Office close at 9:00pm. Snow is starting tonight, so I am trying to beat it......

I haven't seen one of those original style springs on a saw since probably 2004.

The larger spring came out in 7/02

Thats what I meant by the older ones. Then they made a new version.

The old saws all had the old version, then the ones made by those dates got the better version on all versions

Install the spring travel limiter (steel cup, Dolmar part number 038 310 070) while You are at it, just watch for cylinder clearance as it seems to interfere with the cooling ribs on the eldest units.

I have yet to break an AV spring on any of mine, but the two 73's I have purchased used both had broken springs and bent handles.

Thank you for helping me get back into business, I guess I won’t have to use the 372 beater backup saw now :).

I'm building a post that adds to the poleman tutorial. I've been up against the carb mod curve.

This is the jet you pull with its membrane intact. I haven't seen a pic posted yet.

Believe it or not it's easier to just drill the old jet, and find a salvage carb to discect for the jet. You are drilling it so orifice size does not matter. They come out pretty easy.

Finally popped the weak older design 7900 spring mount. Which is a known weak point. Oh well it gives me a excuse to upgrade to the stronger updated one.View attachment 168225
Just went thru the same thing about 2 weeks ago. Ordered from Nate also & back on the go

Thank you mr Chin, parts installed and I robbed a limiter off a 6421 carcass I have. Wilhelm is right the limiter contacts the early saws cylinder fins and even more so when the spring is maxed out in different directions. Not good, you could risk breaking a fin. So I measured how much I had to take off when the spring is maxed out sideways. Works like charm and imho necessary to have this limiter if the saw is going to be used hard. 75C9F0E7-8689-4564-9372-ED169A8BF2F0.jpegRed is how much has to be ground off.81B13685-7B96-4841-BD7A-C1FCC2CF6BF2.jpeglooking great!

I didn't check mine - I'll have to look at it. My homemade choke rod broke on my tillotson Saturday. I have a couple things to finish up but I'm ready to pull the carb off & fix the choke carb arm right. Anyone 3D print an intake elbow for the different screw alignment on that yet?
