Don’t pry on it and that saw won’t give you problems. The AV isn’t as strong as the 572 or 462.

Yeah, I noticed that quickly. I will have some spare springs here soon just in case. That has been the number one complaint I have heard from anyone in my area who has tried them. Otherwise, they liked it. When I get hung up,(I’ve heard about it) I won’t treat it like a 461, lol. Had it pinched in a log yesterday, jerked on it like a Stihl for a second, then calmly used some wedges. The lightweight bar is probably a good thing for this saw, and for me.

Also, check out the size of the flywheel... huge compared to a 372 or other 5 cube saws. That has to help the torque greatly imo. They made it heavier I think because the piston and crank are super light. Not much reciprocating mass. If they put a light flywheel on it... it probably wouldn’t be as impressive in torque.

It does have an impressive flywheel, which I agree with you is providing some torque. I have been on the fence for this saw for awhile, but I gave in, and my 462 and 572 are home now at least for this job. They just don’t seem to have as much torque, which is mostly what I like. Could just be new saw feelings, but it really is pulling better compared to them with the 32. I don’t mind tuning a carb, so that’s not an issue, and I really don’t notice any sort of weight difference between the 7900 and the 572.

They really are impressive saws. The only draw back to them I can think of off the top of my head is the rather weak av and it is kind of a thirsty saw. But other than that, I love mine. I retired it for the summer to use the 572 but next winter I’ll use it again. It’s cut a lot of wood for me.

Oh and the bar oil cap always gets stuck on and you need a scrench to take it off lol. Can be fixed with a flippy cap off a husky or just always have that scrench on you.

I forgot to mention that is actually has really nice stock dogs on it. I have no intention on changing them.

I keep telling people these saws are so underrated and undersold it’s a shame really. Keep us updated how it holds up for you.

The peak torque number is probably relatively close ballpark on all 3 but the 462 makes it higher up, the 572 in the middle midrange and the 7900 more low end torque than the other two. There all comparable in cut speed stock imo, but powerband is different is my point.

Yeah, for sure. I guess it was kind of surprising, because they’re all in the same ballpark for weight and handling for me. The 462 is obviously lighter, but I have zero issues carrying this saw with the lightweight bar on it in our terrain. A 661 I can feel is more fatiguing on a guy.
And it felt more torquey to me than my 461’s, with less vibration as well.

Lol I think some kind of vaccum occurs and it sticks or idk. The gas cap... no problems. It sure can be annoying sometimes that I know.

Agreed, the 462 I had to keep rpm’s high to stay in the powerband.

Been there done that. Had the gooder side effect of extra waterproofing for muh boots that day.

I have heard of some possible oiler problems with these. Possibly that little plastic piece wearing down? It is oiling pretty good right now.

Yeah that is a weakness too, they sell a rebuild kit for the oiler, the end of it screws off. Pretty easy to disassemble.

I’ve got one of those coming as well. I am a parts hoarder. I have seen where people take the plastic nub off and put a little piece of wire or a screw on it. Does that work well?
