I want to get a light weight saw I can use for limbing that can also be used for my wife and boys to learn with. I was thinking one of these two saws for the pro build, light weight and cost. I would be open to suggestions as well. Was thinking a 40cc saw but I think the 026 is close on weight, leaning towards the 421 any thoughts?

Dealer support? IDK where my nearest Dollie dealer is. I have to like the looks of a saw, or I just won't play.

Here's how a 024 super runs in oak. Just a muff mod, advanced timing and agressive chain. Not bad for 44 cc

Is this saw an object of your affection or a tool thats gonna actually get worked ?

Id take a 421 over an 026.

What other saws do you have ?

Have both. The 421 has much better AV and a 5year old could start it. Runs flawlessly. Weight wise they are very close (no scale but feel close- 421 is a little lighter with the Sugihara. Both 18". .325 (.063 vs .050).

Physically, the Dolmar has a bigger butt.

Ported the 421 was nearly equal to the 49cc 026 stock. 026 possibly had more torque. With a MM and advanced timing, the 026 was ahead of the ported 421 with 18" on both.

Not sure how the 421 would have been running 16" Even ported the 421 is a joy to run all day long. No bad manners and you still don't need ear muffs.

I liked the 026 stock, but if it hadn't been my dads it would have been trading off. Now that @drf256 ported it, it's an entirely new animal. I have yet to run the side by side but Al's saw would take its lunch $$$ and then some.image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Yep going to have to jump on the 421 band wagon. The super easy and reliable starting and good AV are worth a serous look. I have a few videos of the 421 on my YouTube channel. It is a good all around small saw. Don't know if it would out cut and 026 but it is more enjoyable to run IMHO.

Don't forget the Husky 353, but they are really hard to find. That's why I bought one last year.

Only 5/8 of an inch wider not bad looks wider than that. This saw will get used a bit. Not super interested in a 50cc, I had a 2152 and just reached for my 60cc saws because weight was so close. But I know the 026 is light for 50cc. How does the 421 pull a 18 inch bar?

I think @Red97 has a video of my stock 421 with 3/8lp 18" Stihl full chisel. If I recall correctly it was not too bad with a only a muff mod and carb tune.

I run .325 .050 72 18" now. I run that on my 346 too.
