Talked with my rep today and will have my hands on my demo unit no later than Thursday! I know there's a number of these out there already but this will be the first one I've had a chance to run. I have some trees to drop behind my shop so I'll be giving you guys some feedback. I must say I'm skeptical because I'm such a believer in the 450p's. With basic tuning they walk all over the 500p so we'll see. I am excited to find out!

Curious to see what the 501 coil is limited to.

Is the 450 coil limited?

Can't wait for the review.

As far as I can tell no. I can crank mine up to to about 14,500 before the rpm drop from
Lack of fuel. I left it set to about 13,500. It's supposed to retard the timing if it over revs according to Echo but I see no evidence of that.

Really hoping the 501 has an unlimited coil. My 490 need it bad. Lol

The 501 definitely looks promising, from a porting standpoint.

The 450 has the notches cut in the piston? What all did you do to your 450?

Yes they are quite light weight especially for an echo piston. Actually rev quicker IMO then the 520/530 but not quite the torque. Muffler is the biggest thing. Choked up more than any other Echo saw. And you know that's saying a lot! Otherwise I just touched up the transfers, intake, and exhaust. Nothing major that I can remember. It's been probably 5 years since I had it apart. It'll give a 346 all it can handle. Maybe I'll run it along side the 501 for you guys.

Here's what I like so far:

1. They got rid of that ridiculous reduced effort starter.
2. Captive bar nuts.
3. Better rubber on wrap handle.
4. Wound tight to 14,700 slight 4 stroke at 13,800
5. Seems smoother than the 500 but maybe it's just being rid of that rattly starter.

I stuck it in a couple blocks of wood quick. Seems strong for a 50cc. I'll give it a better workout and get some video for you guys Saturday. Looks promising so far!!
