There's no reason why it wouldn't work .I just wondered if you heated up the flywheel just a bit and cranked it down it might be a thing it would become like a heat shrink fit on the crank taper .

Very common to do on bolts and studs with low stress ratios. The residual compressive stresses at the thread root are extremely beneficial for fatigue life because it delays crack initiation. Heat treatment after rolling removes the stresses and the benefit.
Oh yeah, I was just gonna say that. :SimpHomer:
