I have a couple of old Coleman products. My favorites (also oldest) are a lantern that belonged to my grandfather that was made in 1958 and a 2-burner camp stove that was made in the early 1960's. I scored the old camp stove at a local auction house for under 20 bucks if I recall. The old lantern, I inherited from my grandfather. I love the old Coleman camping gear, the sound of a lantern takes me back to nights spent on the bank of Fish Creek walleye fishing with my dad and grandfather.

I have a newer dual fuel stove that we bought new in 2002, another newer (late 70's-early 80's) camp fuel lantern, and a handful of propane lanterns. The propane lanterns are convenient, but I still prefer the old pumpers. And any time the wife goes to that auction she tries to pick up more old Coleman gear that comes across the block. Sometimes we win, many times they get bid higher than we want to pay. I've seen those older lanterns go for more than $30. We like to snatch em up for $10 or less.

The wife has a soft spot for old Dietz oil and wick lanterns... As does my mom and sister in law. Some of those lil buggers demand a premium!

I picked up these five last week for 30.00. The center one is '78 and has the box, the left big hat is a '63 and they both run good the other 3 are missing some small parts or dirty and the dark green 288 needs a lot of buffing in the pump bore. It may not be salvageable.

LOL,,they're much more affordable than chainsaws and easier to work on!!

There is a "Mil-Spec" in that picture that I "reappropriated" way back in Feb. 1987.
HQ paltoon was the only one that had 'em and had just gotten a bunch of new ones.
On my last night of guard duty, before leaving Germany, I snagged it!!
I gave it to an old guy who used to take me fishin' when I was a kid, he put it up in the hayloft and that's where it stayed until about 5 years ago when he gave it back to me..

an old 220 ,that again, most guys would use for a "parts" lanter. The vent is a 2 piece (it's rusted in 1/2) and had to Red Coat inside the tank because of rust.
Decided to use some VHT paint on it because,,,what the hell, I could.
It's a strong runner and I believe from the 60's,,the bottom was too rusty to read.100_1581.JPG 100_1582.JPG

That 220 is identical to the one I mentioned above that belonged to my grandfather.. The top vent on mine is kind of rusty, but the rest is in good "well used" but not deteriorated condition. I guess the heat that the vent is subjected to takes it's toll. And it looks like mine has the same exact deflector shield (I think)...all these years I thought it was something grandpa MacGyvered in there

The reflector on yours may be home made, mine is just galvanized flashing

I used Colemans in our off the grid cabin. I prefer the fuel over the propane type as they are much quieter. But one of the son in laws deals in solar and built a solar system instead of the lanterns for the cabin. But I still light them occasionally.

I have some Alladin and Dietz gear too. Internet makes it hard to resist sometimes!
