A week ago today I had to go to the oral surgeon to get a tooth pulled that another dentist snapped off below the gum line about three years ago. He asked if I smoked and I told him just cigars. He said we'll do not do that or you will regret it. Also do not blow your nose or use a straw for two weeks. Well I felt fine that night.....pain meds.... I lit up a stick like normal. Yeah I am regretting it.

I called the oral surgeon over the weekend and left a message asking if they would call in a prescription for pain meds. The office gal called me about 30 minutes ago and said I would have to come in and be seen. She said come at 2:30 today. Well I explained to her that I am 3 hours away. She then asked if I had been smoking or using a straw. Well yes I smoked a cigar last night and I am drinking a fountain pop now.

Yep I am an idiot.

I am joking here folks so do not hang me out to dry but I never thought I would see the day when a cigar would cost more than a "blunt". I live in liberal Illinois where marijuana is legal. It is easier and cheaper to find a marijuana blunt than it is a cigar

I have 100,000 reasons a year not to smoke the devils lettuce. But yes some cigars are pretty expensive

I am assuming you are talking about a $100,000 year salary. It is funny how many here cannot understand the difference between being legal and company policy. Recreational lettuce is legal in Illinois. I do not smoke it. I do know that I can legally purchase it and smoke it on my property if I choose to. About 30 minutes ago a Illinois Conservation Officer was here filling out some paperwork on a boat registration. I do not know about in other states but in Illinois conservation officers are part of the state police. They actually have a wider jurisdiction when it comes to searches. Now if I did smoke marijuana I could have been smoking the entire time he was here with no fear of repercussions. That is because I am on my land and it is legal. Now if I would have done so and went to work tomorrow smelling like a skunk or had an accident I would be immediately piss tested and fired. It does not matter if it is legal it is against company policy. I tried to explain that to some young guys last year and they just could not grasp it.

That’s how it works here in The Land Shaped Like a Hand too.

My grandfather smoked a pipe his entire life. He smoked a few White Owl cigars also but not many. His tobacco of choice was Velvet in a pocket tin. You would have thought he would buy bigger tins but I know growing up I found a lot of the pocket tins "planted" in fields. He developed a bit of lip cancer when he was 82. I will never forget the Friday night Dad, my brother and I went up to the hospital to pick him up after lip surgery. He seemed to be fine. We all live on the same farm in next door houses. Come Saturday morning Grandpa had not come out of the house to see what we were doing. When we went in to check Grandma was shaken. She said Grandpa couldn't walk. They never called it a stroke but I know damn well he had a stroke that night. He did eventually regain a bit of mobility with the use of a crutch but it was sad. He smoked his pipe the entire time. He could make it outside to the skinning shed when we were skinning coons and sit in the truck to watch us plow in the spring. Eventually at age 86 his feet were so lacking in circulation they amputated one leg below the knee. At age 88 they took the other one. He still smoked his pipe. By this time he was near completely blind and was bedridden to a hospital bed. We were able to keep him at home though. Dad would get him up in the evening to sit in a chain in the kitchen and we would sit and talk while he smoked. Of course I had to keep relighting his pipe as he could barely pull a draw. He passed away less than two months shy of his 90th birthday but he did it peacefully at home.

Do you happen to have his old pipe? I have a couple of my grandfathers. Nothing fancy just a cob and a small briar

I agree! I wish we all could live some of the great lives our parents and grandparents did.

My grandmother was born in the USA in 1901. Her father was a Presbyterian minister in Germany. My great grandparents thought they were down having children but Great-Grandma told Great Grandpa she was pregnant again. He wanted his final child to be born in America so they got on a ship and came here from Germany in early 1901. Grandma met Grandpa in about 1919 and they were married soon. They spent their entire lives together. When Grandpa's health was failing Grandma took care of him. Sadly it took a toll on her. In late January 1988 she had to enter the hospital. It was just going to be a few days but while she was in the hospital Grandpa passed away at home. It was sad they were together their entire adult lives and in the end were separated. She was at the funeral and came home. She continued to live in their home a bit over 11 more years. We really thought she was heading to 100 but sadly she passed 3 days before her 98th birthday
