I see that they make those in a 6-1/2” x 50, I am going to try & acquire some of those to compare for flavor. I have no idea if they are similar.
I really liked the larger one. More room for the blend itself to shine. Really like the wrapper on those so even the smaller one earlier was great

Had my 5th Rocky Patel, out of the sampler. They're still batting a thousand. Good flavor, fantastic burn, but she was a big one for me. Only smoked half of it. I'll finish the second half tomorrow. Looks like I need to venture into other Rocky brands.

I lit this one tonight with high expectations

42F033E5-4B07-4DCC-91AC-84C4F31285A3.jpeg

After about 10minutes I was very unimpressed with the tar bubbles oozing out. So I cut the fired foot end off & trimmed the head back just enough to get the goo off & stuck it in a bag.

After some research on the interweb, recommendations seemed to be just trim a bit off the head & you are good to go. So I will try to fire it back up after a bit.

This is why I usually cut deeper and leave a better opening. You’ll have way less issues

I'm a bit thick sometimes............what are you saying causes the tar? Are you not thinking it's from a stem?
That seems to be to root of the issue, not trimming enough off of the cap. I always preferred taking less, I have had some caps peel off. Maybe it’s just a noob thing BUT I learned something new today.

I'm no expert, but I've always taken as little as possible too, because of a video that Nick Perdomo put out, saying to do that. I figured he should know. Lol

The punch hole creating tar makes sense, because it draws it all to a smaller opening, but then why doesn't it happen more often? I don't punch many cigars as all, just box pressed, but I should be having issues as well, if me and you both take as little as possible. That's why the stem explanation made sense.

I have no idea, honestly.

I have never had an issue with a punch or v-cutter just a regular scissor/snip cutter.

I don’t know either, I will just start taking a bit more off it to start with then if I get tar take a bit more off.

View attachment 371419That’s about what I look for when I cut my smokes. View attachment 371424Don’t judge me too hard for a little slobber there.
It gives me a better draw. I can use a punch but not a fan really. I have a nice deep v cutter but that didn’t really do much for me either

That's way more than I take. I barely take the outer cap off, when I use a normal guillotine cutter. I may need to find a happy medium, because I've screwed up a few caps back in the beginning, by taking too much. Hence, the reason I take so little now.

Correction on an earIier post of mine. I said I use a punch cutter on box pressed cigars and I meant I use V cutters now, after Jim told me that's what he did, because I had a cap explode on my first one. I haven't used a punch cutter in a long time.

As long as you’re getting a good draw and it’s not like smoke is only coming through a very narrow opening which will tar up. You’re doing it fine. This is just where I like them. Everyone likes different stuff. I just like a very open draw on a cigar so you can kinda “sip” on it.

Had this one the other day. It was very good!0D11E8C7-C1BA-429F-A623-38468CCBF079.jpeg

I have also tried the rest of the Montecristo sample cube. The Platinum was the best of the bunch. The white series was mild and smooth and would make a good ballgame smoke. The Epic was similar to the white but had more leather and maybe some coco. I didn’t enjoy the Monte at all. It was over he top old leather and very little else. I’ll let those age in the humidor and hope they mellow out.

Nice! I’ve got some Rocky’s waiting for me at home. I’m really looking forward to.
