So...... I didn't quite read the whole thread, but........ Has anyone tried to top pin one of these? It used to be a common thing on the 3.0 omc's and 2.5 merc's. Never had a pin come out that was done like that.

You mean re-index the ring gap to another location on the piston? I have done that to get the ring gap in a more desirable location.....Away from transfers and exhaust ports.

A little simpler. The top pinning is drilling a .030-.035 hole through the dome at the rearmost of the locating pin. And you just tap it with a mig welder. Clip the wire off and file it flush with the top of the piston.

It sounds like a micky mouse thing to do, but it works really well on the outboards. Keeps the pins where they belong.

I have a piston somewhere that points the wrong way too
