Carlton Chain Sharpener?

There is a Carlton Model 12C1115 Sharpener available for sale locally. I don't think I have seen any discussion on this model at all. Is it the same as any other? Says Made in Italy.

What would be a reasonable value for such an item?

Tecomec makes the Oregon grinders, as well as a few other brands. Made in Italy is better than a clone made in China. Parts should be available if needed.

Hard to be sure, but it looks like no light, and no 'down angle' tilt. So I am guessing that it is similar to the Oregon 510 (a lower feature version of the 511A). Sold for around $260US new.

Value is what you are willing to pay, condition, etc. Look around eBay for completed auctions. Be sure to include the cost of any missing accessories- they came with 3 wheels, wheel dressing brick, profile gauge, and manual.

Thanks for the info, you seemed to have nailed it right on. I don't need a grinder but if I had found a diamond in the rough I might have made an effort to pick it up. He has it listed as Make an Offer, so I might offer a few bucks but not much...

If Itis complete, and in good shape, $120 might be a fair price (but not a 'steal').

Wheels are $15 a piece at Bailey's ($25 for Oregon OEM); dressing brick is $6-$8, contour gauge is about$5.

I'd rather have that than a new clone grinder at the same price. JMHO.

I have one and love it. Think Oregon 510. Good basic grinder. 120 is a good price all day.

They are right. 510 Oregon. Nothing special about it but it's a good solid grinder. It wont be symmetrical grinding cutters left to right without advancing or retarding the cutter when you switch sides of the chain. Also the new version of this grinder has 2 rear pinch points to create a triangular pinch hold on the chain. Which is better for holding the chain tight but not ideal. Honestly no light is probably a bonus. The older 511A and 511AX came with lights but they are a worthless feature unless you are grinding in the dark with only that light to see by. If you guys want better sharpening light I suggest browsing the internet and find something like this. I have a couple on standby for when I finish my welding bench and will have them hardwired into the power and then have one thick power cable running from my bench to the wall.

that one is $80. I was more using it for visual reference for 110v clamp on LED lamp with a flex neck to light up any angle you want.

Good lighting is helpful. A lot of guys use desk lamps from garage sales if used at a fixed workshop location. Check out Menard's for large, LED work lights.

Also a bunch if you search for LED flexible desk light, instead of work light. Like this one on Amazon for under $20:
