ok here is the problem, my H screw on the carb is one of those plastic things with the limiter wings. I got rid of the wings with the dremel but now the red plastic that surrounds the actual screw just sort of spins without adjusting the actual screw beneath it. Is there a fix for this short of buying a new carb?

Usually those screws are ridged to hold on to the plastic. Your plastic piece may be stripped causing your troubles. Some of those screws rely on the plastic piece to keep the screws from vibrating out of adjustment, and some do not. If your screw has the spring below the screw, you would probably be okay to remove the plastic so you may access the screw. Often times the screw has a flat head groove in it once the limiter cap is removed, but not always. What saw is it on?

can you just take the plastic piece off, and if so, how without wrecking the carb??

Some of them have a spring steel piece under the plastic. If you smash the plastic with lineman pliers they fall off then you need to deal with the steel piece. I use a small screwdriver and pry where the two edges meet then it will slide off.

My 346 has got a metal screw below the plastic piece. If your carb is the same, trim the stops on the plastic pice. Put a sheet metal screw in the end of the plastic piece, and pull it off. I had to pull out the dremel and cut the plastic piece in two because the angle wouldnt let me pull it out all the way. It was like 3 turns out, should be 1. Set it back to 1 and it wouldn't stay running. So now its about 2 out. Trying to let her cool before I go out and start her again. Might need another carb, problem is when I get her running she stays running and good too. Dont think its an air leak. Think its something in the carb that floods her on choke.

If you've got two plastic rings around both the high and low plastic pieces, you have to put the screwdriver in between those rings and lift up the one on the H to get it out. Or just cut it off with the dremel.

I think there are grooves or splines that need to line up to get the cap to go on all the way. Or at least when you take them off they have to be in one certain position

You can drill a hole in the end of the plastic caps so a tiny flathead fits through them for direct contact with the screw. It'll also help keep the screwdriver on the screwhead.

so does the screw beneath the plastic have a head on it with a slot already cut in it for a small screwdriver? If so, then I will have to be careful when drilling out the plastic on top of it so as not to wreck the screw underneath.

It is plastic. You can spin the bit with your fingers and be certain you will not damage anything.

It's a regular flat head screw under the plastic cap. I wouldn't drill them while installed on the carb. The bit will carry through and bend the screws up. A small flat head drive with a little extra force should just press on through it without any drilling.

Yeah, its the same carb as mine. As long as it turns freely on the metal screw, you can pry up on the plastic "holders" around the red plastic and get another small screwdriver, get behind it, and pry it out or tap on it to remove it.

I just file down the plastic tabs so you have a fully adjustable carb. Or you can tear the plastic caps off...I believe the needles do have a place for a small screwdriver. ...but they are tiny

Not sure of the style of cap but on some you can thread a sheet metal screw a couple threads in the plastic and then use pliers to yank it off. Pics of the screws would help.
