This is one of my mild work saws for a local logging company, this saw has been in the timber 6 weeks since I built it.
What do you guys think happened?
I'm certain I know what did it.

The mild scoring directly opposite the heavy scoring was what gave it away. Gotta have good and plenty of a lube if ya wanna go fast! I would not be surprised if it was less than 50/1 by the looks of that piston. Maybe mark the tanks with your recommended ratio before they go out might help ya in the future. I had heard that dealers have some kind of a strip they can dip in the fuel in the tank to see how much oil is in the gas, is this true, anybody ever heard of such a thing and if so where could they be acquired? So far I've been lucky with guys that have straight gassed saws, they knew it, but there's always that one guy...

He was topping the last tree of the day when it quit,I build all there saws the same, machine work for the piston and a muffler mod and 010 off the key and that's it,no grinding. There very strong too and this is the first out of many that has had a problem premature.
I think a simple shake of the fuel can would have saved this one.

There switching to lucas at 40:1 with 89 octane gas.

It was a combination of *s-wordty gas and *s-wordty oil,at 50:1 there's no room for error.
I first thought it was straight gassed but it's not,it has a little oil but damn little.

If your gas can sits all day in the sun is think a good shaking before you fuel up is a good idea.
