So.....yeah.
Like the title says.

I've built 4-5 of these now.
Not as bad as most make them out to be.

Question...
This is the 1st new OEM cylinder I've used.
Low and behold, I found out they don't install the brass impulse barb at the factory.
So how do you install these little buggers without damaging them?

I'll start with a pic of where I'm at...

You could try heating up the cylinder and pulling it out. I thought the cylinders came with the impulse nipple. May be better off picking a new one up.

IIRC there's a shoulder around the middle of the brass nipple. Maybe find an appropriate sized 1/4 drive socket that will slip over the nipple and rest against the shoulder. Then just tap it home. Could maybe put a little 518 on the part that goes into the cylinder just for some added insurance.

Just thinking out loud here. Not sure if it would work or not. Personally I haven't had to replace one of these nipples yet.

That's how I install the ones on the 044/440.

I presume this means you are putting a 390 jug on a 290 saw???

How do they run???

I know nothing about these things, but I bought a few "dead" saws a while back, and one of em is a 029 with a fried P&C.

I presume the 029 & 290 are essentially the same???

That's what I'm doin Mike!

Aside from all the hogwash you'll read on the forums, I think they run quite well.

There are minor differences between an 029 & 290. Kinda like the 044 & 440.

Does the jug just swap, or are there modifications like on a 440/460?

Also, I presume you do some other mods to bring out the power?

Maybe I should just shut up and follow the thread!

Did your cylinder come with the piston bearing?

Just a simple swap of the top end is all that's required.

Only mod is gonna be to the muffler.
