Looking back now at all the "ban an ape" antics over in AS, it all seems funny now. Life does that a lot ya know.
Nice work BA.

Thanks Angelica.

To my knowledge, Brush Ape was only banned once on ArboristSite but I understand he had one hell of a following. You could attribute some of it to a predilection for honing passive-aggressive skills against the quidnuncs on that site, I suppose. It could all be traced to one event and you know who you are.

However for posterity and out of a deep reverence for the building arts, let's get one thing straight. Do not confuse roof pitch with roof slope. They are not the same thing. Distance oneself from mistaking the way things appear for the way things are and your path will be a true journey.

In English terms, roof slope is the amount a roof's rise increases in a given run: for example 6" in 12".

Roof pitch on the other hand is the relationship between the height of the ridge to the level of the plates. It is designated by the proportion the rafters bear to the span. Pitch is what fraction the rise is of the span and is expressed as a fraction. That's why a 6" in 12" slope is a 1/4 pitch or "quarter pitch", 4" in 12" is a 1/6 pitch, 8" in 12" is a 1/3 pitch, 12" in 12" is a 1/2 pitch and 24" in 12" like you would see on an A-frame is a full pitch. Making the distinction is important for reasons not immediately obvious. However, the use of the framing square is based on similar triangles in all such cases. Do the math or just ask Randy.

Someone argued that you're wrong on that. Who? The patron saint of f'ed up roofs?

Hehe. Just screwin' around guys. Remember, at the end of the day it's gettin' paid gettin' laid is all that matters. That and hopefully this rock we're ridin' on 40,000 miles per hour through space maintains gravity. Know what I mean...? Dunno the metric equivalent of that but she's one fast sumbitch. In the meantime, put as much timber on the ground as you can make access to. Kiln dry a couple thousand board ft so you can make the honey do's then get another 5000 on the racks to air dry, then discover caffeine again for the first time. Most importantly, don't be a pussy.
