Brown as it has been here for years, I think they have more yolk, but I might be wrong. We used to keep over 200 of them SOBS. here and I did not like a single one of them!!

I do think that the brown taste better though, The shell cracks better also. ( the wife hatted the damn chickens )

Not a good subject here!!

I don't discriminate against either brown or white...they get ate around here. I agree with the yolk part Amberg said...seems brown eggs have more, and taste better I think. But it could just all be in our heads? Time for Mythbusters I think on this one.

The big question is: What is that white sqiggly chit right beside the yolks?
I don't know but it's like when my son asked me what the white stuff was in bird crap, and I said that it's bird crap too...

Simple truth of the matter is...there's zero difference in taste or yolk between the two. It's all about the genes...white feathered chickens with white earlobes lay white eggs, red or brown chickens with red earlobes lay brown eggs.

The size difference of brown eggs being usually bigger than white eggs is all relative...brown or red chickens tend to be a little bigger physically, eat more feed, produce a little larger egg than the white birds do.

As Paul Harvey would say..."and now you know the rest of the story."

Idk it seems like the brown eggs yokes have a richer flavor or something.
I don't think I've had duck eggs but hear they are better. Heard the Indian runners are good also.

"An egg yolk is basically a bag of concentrated food for the development of a chicken embryo if the egg is fertilized. It doesn’t float around freely inside the clear egg white, but is anchored to the shell by two little twisted ropes called chalazae (pronounced cuh-LAY-zee), and these are the white things you are talking about. One chalaza connects the yolk at the more pointed end of the egg and the other at the rounder end. This tethering ensures that the yolk is protected against hitting the inner walls of the egg if the egg is moved around."

Free range vs. store bought is the bigger difference. We've had chickens for years now and don't prefer store bought any more. Taste difference is huge.
White vs. brown? Dunno... we always get hens that lay brown. :icon_cafe:
