I traded my small running wacker G2.5 generator for a non running B&S Storm Responder 6250/8500. Hoping for the best as it locking up, I pulled the head and there was a big chunk of carbon that was preventing the piston from going past TDC so I cleaned it all up and it turns over freely now BUT I need to replace the head gasket as the original one was deteriorated ... I need to find the torque specs ( all Ive found was 180 inlb and my conversion would be 15 inlb ? Valve clearances .004 int .006 exh ?
I am also trying to find a manual for it but not having any luck
Engine # 1209221601963
Model # 038592-00
B&S Storm Responder 6250W running 8500W Starting

Thanks for any help. I believe its 420cc

Some of us REDNECKs would draw the head bolts up moderately snug then patiently torque them down a bit at a time. If something goes wrong blame it all on the BIL>>> He aint't around so -- common sense helps a lot and a few toddies (to a point) lowers the stress level. Wait a bit and someone will give you the proper numbers and procedure. Is your motor needing rings or why/where did the carbon chunk come to be there? Good luck

I must ask, are those numbers off the engine or the generator frame tag? Usually, the engine numbers are stamped on the valve cover.

The numbers are off the tags that are on the engine and frame.

Yeah, I dont know my own strength so I can easily snap head bolts off if they dont strip out first...lol I just want to do it right. There is no scoring on the walls, still see the hatch marks so thats good. I believe it was running really rich, Has good compression so rings and valves are ok, not going to tear it down further ( as I originally thought it had a busted rod ) just wasnt hearing a clunk, spark plug was gone si I thought something was in the head, using a copper wire I could hear something small tinking when I swept inside, compressed air wouldnt blow it out so I thought maybe a piece of spark plug fell into it... LUCKILY it was just a chunk of carbon. Guy said it was running until he did a tune up and couldnt get it to turn over. Luckily no damage like a hole in the piston or worst a snapped rod. I believe this chunk of carbon fell off the spark plug area when it was removed, if it fell off while running that may have been the death of it....
Im going to clean the carb and everything as I go so its fresh. Oil is clear but Im going to replace it anyways to make sure its fresh.
a few pics. The yellow Wacker is what I traded, before and after of cleaning the piston and head.

I'm pretty sure the engine number is not on a tag. It should be stamped into the valve cover.

Ok, I got the torque info, now the only issue Im having is finding where the wires connect for the fuel shut off solenoid. I cant seem to fund where the 2 bullet connectors plug into? On the only diagrams I can find shows generators with batteries and one wire to oil switch and other to key switch, this generator has no battery or key switch ( just rocker switch and manual pull ) B&S website can not find the model numbers to find a manual and Im having no luck online researching it?

Do they look like they were previously connected? See if it will start without them hooked up.
Usually, if it has a fuel solenoid, it takes over 12 volts to work.

Im waiting for the head gasket to come in, BUT during this time I got digging around with how far the wires reach... nope, no connections at the oil sensor, no connections at the coil??? wait, found a slot with missing gasket going into the generator itself... so, I pulled the cover off and ??*%&#$@*%^$.... apparently I got screwed. The AVR and brushes are missing, I found replacements on amazon for around $50, thats where my missing connections are, so hopefully once I get it all together it works as its supposed to? Kinda PO'd the guy lied and said it worked great until it stopped running,,, nah they stripped parts off it before that.

I hope it works for you. If nothing else, you got educated. Education costs money.
