I have never made a chain loop from a roll (!).

But I have repaired, or resized, hundreds of loops with a spinner / breaker set.

Some of these were used chains I got for free, or ‘almost free’. Some were odd DL count loops that were heavily discounted.

Some were repairs, or resized to fit other bars or other saws.

If you ‘save’ just 7, $20, chains, you recover the cost of a good spinner / breaker set.

It’s just a good investment for anyone who uses a reasonable number of chains.

The great thing about having your own spinner and breaker is that any loops and scraps you get can be reconfigured to what you need, hit a nail? Knock out the bad section and add in good. Gives you options!
Oh right on, I didn't even think of that.. This thing is seriously going to save my A**.. I tell ya, sometimes my saws function better at being metal detectors than chainsaws.. It never fails, every time I get a good grind going, boss man hollers for a punky stump cut or crane pick & I hit the lottery within 30 seconds of cutting.... Dang residential timber...

For sure and when people hear that you can use chains that most others just throw out then sometimes they get thrown your way!!

I run the tecomec breaker/spinner combo. I have no problem with it. Takes 5 minutes or less to make a chain. I chose it becuase the box was smaller which Made shipping cheaper to Alaska.

In my bench, there's a little drawer right under the breaker/spinner with all the parts, so really no biggey

Here is a link to a related thread I posted a while back.

It still irritates some folks, but it’s really a ‘win-win’ opportunity for people who know how to sharpen and re-size chains.

LET THE BUYER BEWARE!

Ran across this combined spinner / breaker set on eBay (multiple seller listings).

I spoke to one of the main Archer importers / distributors about it.

It is NOT an Archer product.
It is NOT made in the USA.
It is not even a ‘knockoff’ (Archer does not make a similar model).

It is just a rip-off of their brand name, applied to a cheaply made product.

For reference, note how many of the ads for these show bicycle chain, or industrial roller chain, in the background!

Note: Archer DOES sell a version of the Tecomec spinner and breaker set, which is good quality, and can be a good deal.

BTW, if you WANT the cheap spinner / breaker COMBO thing, it’s currently cheaper at HF than the misidentified ones on eBay.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Back to the tecomec breaker spinner combo:

Once every 3 months, I make chains in batches off a roll of EXL. It's only 4-5 chains. I only switch the tooling once, when the 4-5 chains are broken to the proper drivelink count. So again, its really no big deal. It works as it should.
