Best spark plug debate of 2016

Bosch or NGK.

I have some older Bosch stock.... never really change a plug unless needed or fouled

A good running 2 stroke can have a plug last a good while.

Have seen 98CRs with original the original plug still installed, new top end and old plug.

Some may disagree but if it looks and still works good I would run it.

NGK in my ATV's, sleds (when I had sleds) and saws. Usually run AC in my Chevy powered boat and in my Chevy trucks.. Oddly enough, my '78 Chevy K10 with a 350 still has the NGK plugs in it from the PO.. I have pulled them and checked gap and condition, still going great! Was initially thinking of pulling the NGKs out of it and swapping in AC plugs because "that's what GM vehicles run", but as good as the ol' girl is running on those NGKs, I'll likely stick with em... HONDA power!! LOL!

Going to China was a stupid move by Bosch , I think they have lost a lot of sales because of it .

NGK mostly but I look at the ground to make sure it's attached good , some of those have wrecked engines because they fell off . Made in SA now so I'm even beginning to question NGK's QC .

Champion sucks? Wear did you read this?Is this your own personal experience or just word of mouth?Many saw come with Champion plugs installed. This is a fact.NGK is better? Show me some documentation to back up this statement! I have used Champion plugs is all of my saws, mowers, and weed eaters. Never had a plug related issue.

NGK .020-.025 gap. Because champion sucks.

It's kinda like oil. Whatever works for you works for you. Find something you like and stick with it, if champion works for you I'm cool with that. I've been wrenching on cars and trucks for the last 20+ years and must say in my personal experience I've seen more champion plug failures than any other period.

I wish there was more than anecdotal data on this topic. Seems people swear off whatever plug screwed them over that one time. It would be an interesting study to determine failure rates based on useage between plugs. I buy nkg plugs though, the farm store close to me sells them for $1.50 each, so every now and then I grab a few. Before that I used Bosch, cause the other place I went carried those.

There's a lot of, 'I won't use xxy plugs cause I heard....from a guy'. Or my mate runs xx amount of ope & insists on using xx plugs & has never had a failure. I say give em a go & find out for yourself. Its not expensive to try. It does not cost much to run name brand plugs but with all the cheap Chinese ones hitting the market I'd be interested to know what folks think of them.

Plugs work best without any oxides on the strap and a sharp edge on electrode. If you have an old style 'points file' you can touch up a plug and drop its resistance to get a better spark.

Here's a different tack on plug selection - I usually run a Champion RCJ8Y, it is half a range colder than the BPMR7A plug. The reason is not the heat range, I run it without the base gasket to increase the compression ratio. The plug has a thicker steel threaded section and thicker electrode (plus a bit more extended electrode). It takes up just a little bit extra space in the combustion chamber. When you don't have access to welded up pistons or machined bases, sometimes you have to get creative. I also remove the gasket from under the compression release.

Every time I remove a Champion and use a NGK the saw runs better or starts to run. Anecdotal? Yes,but it works for me.

This is so true. I carry one in each of my saws first aid kits.

Wow ngk has an overwhelming vote. Wonder why the local dealers push Bosch? Maybe higher profit margin?

Must be profit margin. I have had three new style Bosch failures this year. They're *s-word IMO. I have have NOS

NGK when I need a short top on the plug.

Have 2smoke plugs going three+ years now and just check, re-gap and run. One might be worn out by the end of this year. IE: eroded away most of the center and some of the ground strap.

Torch for stock builds including all my work saws. Had one bad out of the box no fire.

A plug is a plug for the most part these days. The China stuff is sketchy at best.

The most overlooked point is the heat range you "really" need and the environment you create for it to run it.

The best racing parts almost always require modification.

I think in all my test over the years E3, U-groove, ect ect ect were as much BS as Spitfire and those gimmick plugs like it.

Platinum is a big plus in the wear department. They just last longer.

Now, where did I put that damn spark plug!

The plug will tell you if it is the right one. No, I'm not going to elaborate on that. This would take a book to explain in detail.

Nobody "reads" plugs anyway. Just a fad it was. Carry on

What plugs are you folks seeing Bosch made in china?
Just checked my boxes outside while setting up a guys saw. All of mine in the newer stuff in stihl and husky 6 and 7 are made in Brazil on them. The older stuff in 5 made in Germany.

I would rather not support the China inport industry if I can.
Although champion is made right up the river from me and I know some of the people that work there. So in short I don't trust they put their 100% in.

I've had two Bosch and one Champ do that.

In their defense, they were really, really old and lots of hours.

I have one or three Remington saws with their original plug. (You can tell buy the paint overspray.)
