Between piston and cylinder
Hi,

I'm looking at replacing both the cylinder and piston in my 371xp. A piece of broken ball retainer from bearing got jammed between the piston top and decomp valve hole and caused a 5 mm long and 1 mm deep, 1 mm wide groove in the cylinder. It's short but still will probably ruin the compression. A shame as otherwise the original cylinder is in good shape.

So would a Meteor Cylinder and Piston kit be the best option? The saw is not gonna be ported but I would like to get as close to stock performance as possible. OEM price is astronomical and it has turned out this saw has had a very rough life.

I just bought a new XPW OEM top end for $152 delivered. They're still out there and at decent prices.

The only way the OP is going to get near OEM performance out of a Meteor cylinder is if extensive porting is done. I've seen
a lot of variation in port timing in the Meteor cylinders.

I’m not sure about shipping but eBay has this for $75 US:

Thanks!
I hadn't seen that although I made some searches on ebay. Anyway allmost all European countries are excluded from the sellers list on this item. Also some items that they do sell to EU have simply too high delivery costs. For example a new crank will have about 120,-$ in customs and mail charges. A crank is of course a heavy item but still...

At the moment I've decided to test the original cylinder and see whether it will run at all, run bad or run decently and decide then whether I need a new piston or everything.

Someone with experience could probably say immediately whether the old jug is completely ruined. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of it. Anyway the scratch starts from the upper edge of the decompression hole and goes 5mm (1/5") up. Thus I think it will let some of the compressed gas-air mix between the cylinder and piston. But how much? The scratch stops roughly where the piston ring is at tdc.

Any thoughts?
