So I was headed into my surgeons office this morning and I see an elderly lady with a cane making her way to the door ahead of me so I quicken my pace to pass her and open the door for her.
As I get to about 4 feet away the automatic door slides open and the several people sitting nearby on benches gave me dirty looks for beating a crippled grandma in a footrace

I have done that before...I realized what was going to happen as I saw the automatic door hardware in my haste to get to the door. As I passed the person, I jumped in front of the door, and said " let me get the door for you." Then allowed them to proceed first. Made them laugh, so it was worth it

I have also opened a door for an elderly lady, an out-swing door that I was pulling to me. Accidentally pulled an elderly fella to the ground that must have had a death grip on the handle. I felt horrible

old ladies like me
a few years back I was escorting my 101 year old grandmother to the eye surgeon for a check up and another elderly lady (complete stranger) stopped us and told my grandma that "you have a beautiful seeing eye dog here" and patted me on the arm like a puppy.
we laughed about that regularly
